Intex PureSpa Hot Tub Pros & Cons

Inflatable Intex PureSpa Hot TubThe Intex PureSpa Hot Tub is one of the highest-rated inflatable hot tubs and one of the most popular at the same time.

One of the reasons is that it is inexpensive compared to other models, which makes it affordable to lots of families. In addition, it’s made by Intex, a well-known brand name company that has made high-quality inflatable products and above ground swimming pools for over 40 years.

All that said, the Intex PureSpa is not for everyone. There are both pros and cons to the inflatable spa, and I have outlined them below in my Intex Hot Tub Review:

The Pros of the Intex PureSpa

1. The Spa has a Great Price

Not only is the Intex PureSpa low-priced, but it offers good value too. It is well made, easy to use and can last for years of regular use. Consider this: the price of the entire unit costs less than many hot tub covers for portable fabricated tubs. Now that’s a bargain.

2. Use this Spa Indoors or Out

Unlike in-ground or not-so-portable spas, inflatable models can be easily used indoors or outside. In fact, some users re-locate them depending on the time of year.

You may or may not be able to take advantage of this, depending on the space you have available, but for some homeowners, it can be really convenient to have an indoor spa in the wintertime.

3. The Intex PureSpa Feels Soft, Yet has a Sturdy Frame

Yes, a blow-up spa has less structure than one made of concrete. However, that doesn’t make it un-sturdy or wobbly. These units are so rigid, actually, that multiple people can sit on the outer wall of the tub. The spa won’t explode or implode.

While inflatable spas have strength and durability, you also get the softness of the wall and base of the tub. You don’t get these features from concrete or pre-formed tubs. Just imagine the soft feel of a pool lounger – but one that’s a lot stronger and more durable.

4. Easy-Care Tub

Jerry by the Intex PureSpa and PumpOne thing I really appreciate about this hot tub is the low maintenance factor. It comes with replaceable filters and a floating chlorine dispenser that essentially do the water cleaning and treatment for you.

5. Built-In Water Treatment

Intex includes a built-in hard water treatment system, which softens hard water. Soft water definitely has a more luxurious feel on the skin and hair. If you have hard water where you live, you know what I’m talking about.

Softer water causes less wear-and-tear on your spa pump. Therefore, it lasts longer with less problems and maintenance. Users get multiple wins here.

6. Better Insulation

Although I included “More Expensive to Heat” in the “Cons” list below, I should mention that this tub includes an insulated top cover and thermal floor mat to minimize heat loss. That definitely counts for something.

The Cons of an Intex PureSpa:

1. The Spa has No Seats

Many inflatable hot tubs don’t come with built-in seating, especially the basic models that don’t have lots of bells and whistles. The same goes for the Intex PureSpa. If you’ve used in-ground tubs or fabricated portable spas, you’re probably used to sitting in a tun with a seat.

It may hard to imagine one without seats. A good way to imagine how a “seatless” spa would feel is to think about sitting in a regular bathtub or bathroom spa tub at home. Is that comfortable and relaxing for you?

2. This Spa Costs More to Heat

This will depend on the climate where you live and whether or not you use the spa indoors or outdoors. That said, typically inflatable spas lose heat faster than fabricated spas that have thick foam insulation.

Some people only heat their hot tubs part-time to lower the cost. You can check out the diagram below to see a sample cost breakdown:

3. Don’t Look for Bells and Whistles on the Intex PureSpa Hot Tub

Floating Night Lights for Inflatable Spa I don’t personally use colored lights, aromatherapy and waterfalls in my hot tub. However, I do know that they can enhance the spa experience, especially if you are trying to relax and unwind after a stressful day.

The PureSpa doesn’t give you these. That doesn’t mean you can get your own, it’s just more money and more effort. If you like the additional ambiance of subtle colored lighting, simply get colored floating lights designed specifically for tub or pool use, like Floating Splash Lights.

Hopefully my review of the Intex PureSpa Hot Tub answered a few questions for you and helped you decide whether or not this spa fits your needs.
